Shark Fishing With Zane Grey

Here are couple of pictures that I stumbled across of famous western author Zane Grey. I have known who Zane Grey was since I was about five years old, but I never knew that he was an avid fisherman until today.

When I was growing up my great grandmother had practically his whole collection of western novels. She used to keep these novels in the book case in the living room behind her favorite chair. It is kind of weird to think that some of my favorite child hood memories involved this authors books, and to think that he was an avid shark fisherman just makes it all the better.

Record Bigeye Thresher Shark

Here is a record bigeye thresher shark from days past. This record shark was caught in New Zealand waters by Dianne North while she was out shark fishing one fine day in February of 1981.

When Dianne was finally able to haul this giant thresher shark back to the dock in New Zealand, it was weighed and measured. The incredible thing is that this giant shark weighed in at a whopping 802 pounds. Not to bad for a day of shark fishing!

Florida Shark Fishing

It looks like the guys from TX Shark Fishing have their hands full with this monster Tiger Shark that they caught while shore fishing along the beach in Florida. Check out how the guy that is helping the angle gets knee deep in the water while they are trying to bring in this Tiger Shark. It looks like a whole lot of fun, and I can't wait till I get to go back down to Florida and go shark fishing again!

Mako Shark Fishing

Check this monster Mako Shark out!

If you have dreams of Record Shark Fishing then this is where the bar is set at. This Mako shark is the largest Mako that has ever been caught on a rod and reel.

Angler Billy Silvia hooked this 11 foot 2 inch fork length, with 96 inches of girth, and weighed 1,324 pounds on July 27,1999 at Stellwagen Bank. This shark was brought into Green Harbor in Marshfield, Mass. to be weighed and photographed.

This Mako Shark would have been a new IGFA world record, but unfortunately this massive shark did not qualify because it was fought out of the rod holder.

IGFA World Record Mako Shark

If you are looking for the current IGFA World Record Mako Shark then you are in the right spot. This monster fish was caught by Captain Chris Peters, angler Luke Sweeney, and crewmen Doug Abdelnour and Dave Gaffey on July 21, 2001 while shark fishing in the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament off of Chatham, Mass.

Angler Luke Sweeney battled this new shark fishing record Mako for almost 3 hours before he was able to get this fish to the boat. When this shark was finally brought into the port and weighed it maxed out at an astonishing 1,221 lbs.
